I first heard about this amazing breakfast treat on Pinterest, I thought “but can I sourdough it though?” The next morning, I was determined to serve up something completely new to my family a sourdough discard Dutch baby. Of course, my husband was “like sourdough Dutch what?” So, I wasn’t the only one who has never heard of this delectable treat. These delicious German pancakes were first served in the early 1900s in Seattle funny part is they aren’t actually Dutch. It’s German, either way they are delicious!

- Sourdough Discard: I usually use discarded sourdough starter, but you can also use a recently fed starter.
- Butter: I use unsalted because it tastes better and doesn’t make your food too salty.
- Organic All Purpose Flour: be sure to use good quality flour it attributes to the texture and taste of the dutch baby.
- Milk: I use A2 milk.
- Vanilla Extract for adding a special flavor and aroma do the dish
- Salt Balances out the taste of your added sugars.
- Organic Cane Sugar
- Eggs I used high quality pasture raised eggs, eggs is a key ingredient.

Equipment
- 1 Skillet Or Cast Iron Skillet
- 1 Blender Optional
Ingredients
Sourdough Discard Dutch Baby Batter
- ½ cup All Purpose Flour
- 1 tbsp Sourdough Starter Discard
- 3 Egg
- 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
- ½ cup Milk
- 1 tbsp Sugar
Other Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Butter For Greasing Pan
Instructions
- Preheat oven ovato 435° put skillet in oven to get hot, while you prep the batter.
- Add all ingredients (accept butter) to the blender and blend for 30 seconds. Time may vary depending on the power of your blender.1/2 cup All Purpose Flour, 1 tbsp Sourdough Starter Discard, 3 Egg, 1/2 cup Milk, 1 tbsp Sugar, 1 tbsp Vanilla Extract
- Next safely pull skillet out of the oven with mittens and grease with with butter.1 tbsp Butter
- Pour batter into the pan and place in the oven to cook for 20 minutes
- once the time is up , remove skillet from the oven and let cool off.
- top with powdered sugar, fruit or maple syrup and enjoy!

- This recipe needs to use quality eggs like pasture-raised eggs or organic eggs because this is the main ingredient in the recipe and you can taste the difference.
- You can add fresh fruit toppings nuts or just eat it plain. I like to add bananas,pecans and maple syrup.
- Before putting your Dutch baby in the oven make sure your oven is completely preheated to the right temperature before putting your Dutch baby in the oven so that you can get a proper rise.
